چکیده

Nowadays, mobile communications face new challenges in its evolution: The convergence of wireless cellular networking and TCP/IP architecture. In addition, Internet protocols do not support mobility, so different mechanisms to offer seamless mobility have been proposed. The fourth generation (4G) IP-based wireless networks have lead IP level the ideal candidate where mobility should be implemented. Mobile IP is the protocol proposed for mobility management at the IP layer. Handover management is one of the most critical phases of this protocol. The high delay of this phase is a limitation to seamless mobility. In this work a detailed analysis about handover process is presented. Moreover, movement detection is a very costly stage in handover mechanism so a new fast movement detection algorithm to improve this detection has been developed. It is called FDML3 (Fast Detection Movement Layer 3). As the handover analysis as the algorithm proposed has been carried out thanks to OMNeT++ simulator.

EAP: New Fast Handover Scheme based on Enhanced Access Point in Mobile IPv6 Networks

Mobile IPv6 has been proposed to support host mobility in the Internet, yet during a handover Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) suffers from packet disruption and packet loss. However, in MIPv6, the handover process reveals numerous problems manifested by a time-consuming network layer based movement detection. Furthermore, inherent delays associated with movement detection are unavoidable in standard MIPv6....

The Impacts of Signaling Time on the Performance of Fast Handovers for MIPv6

A Fast Handover protocol (FMIPv6) in IETF working group is proposed to reduce the handover latency in Mobile IPv6 standard protocol. The FMIPv6 proposes some procedures for fast movement detection and fast binding update to minimize the handover latency. Additionally, to reduce the lost packets caused by a handover, this protocol introduces buffers in access routers. However, the handover laten...

A Comprehensive Study on Handover Performance of Hierarchical Mobile IPv6

Recently, IETF has standardized Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) for supporting IPv6 mobility. Even though existing literatures have asserted that HMIPv6 generally improves MIPv6 in terms of handover speed, they do not carefully consider the details of the whole handover procedures. In this paper, based on the current IETF standards of both MIPv6 and HMIPv6, we conduct ...

A Study on Optimal Fast Handover Scheme in Fast Handover for Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) Networks

Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) is protocol for handling routing of IPv6 packets to mobile nodes that have moved away from their home network. However, in MIPv6, the handover process reveals numerous problems manifested by a time-consuming network layer based movement detection and latency in configuring a new care-of address, with confirmation scheme called duplicate address detection (DAD). To reduce the...

Optimum Efficient Fast Handover Support for IPv6

---International Engineering Task Force (IETF) proposed MIPv6 and HMIPv6 both mobility management solutions to support the IP mobility. Although HMIPv6 is an extension of MIPv6 still there is handover latency and packet loss in HMIPv6.In this paper a scheme is presented that supports a fast handover efficiently in hierarchical mobile IPv6 networks (HMIPv6). In HMIPv6 when a mobile node (MN) mov...
